Strengthening India’s Immunization Infrastructure

India

In 2009, in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline, VillageReach developed and facilitated a stakeholder meeting in Mumbai, India to develop partnering opportunities for delivering sustainable solutions to the immunization infrastructure problems in India. More than 30 stakeholders across government, NGO, and private industry met to collaborate on and determine key gaps in last mile health system performance and design intervention programs addressing the identified health system strengthening challenges, gaps, and opportunities. The workshop built consensus and coalitions among the stakeholders and together with a VillageReach assessment of rural and urban vaccine distribution systems resulted in the design and implementation of interventions aimed at increasing immunization coverage rates through health system strengthening.
