Development of a health management information system (MIS) appropriate to strengthening remote, underserved health systems is a critical part of the VillageReach model. Effective medical logistics and delivery systems require vast amounts of raw, quantitative data; however, data is often not properly collected and utilized to produce useful results.
There are a few centralized health management information systems that effectively support decision making at the national or provincial level. These systems are often characterized by a limited number of top ministry officials with functioning computers, up-to-date software, and stable Internet connections. It is extremely difficult to extend the reach of these systems to the last mile of the health system: the rural health center.
